STORY
After pitching to show-runners for over a month with a wide variety of concept designs, Greenhaus was chosen to create the Main-Title for Syfy’s new hit show, The Magicians. The producers fell in love with the idea of a “growing tree” concept. Our team developed the the animation of a growing tree, sprouting out from an empty void between two hands performing magic, but the show-runners had second thoughts once they saw their concept in motion. So the team went back to work, sticking to the tree concept, but rather than showing the tree itself, decided to reveal it's presence as a shadow growing along a gritty wall. The design illustrated shadows of the tree branches reaching across the screen; completely consuming the wall with darkness. The wall features graffiti art that resembles the Brooklyn street scene, including many significant symbols that hold great importance to the show. The actual tree was created and grown within the program called SpeedTree and the rest of the piece was put together through Maya.
